An audit committee (kascommissie) consists of owners (or others) who check the VvE's books on behalf of the meeting. Under the Model Regulations 2017, the meeting appoints an audit committee of at least two members every year if there is no supervisory board (article 63.2). Board members and the chair cannot be members.
The committee examines the annual accounts and reports to the meeting. The board must provide all information requested and make the books and records available. If there is an accountant's statement, a report from the audit committee is not needed under the Model Regulations 2017 (article 16.2).
For small VvE's, the audit committee is a simple way to build in a check: a second pair of eyes on bank statements, invoices and the reserve fund balance before the meeting approves the annual accounts.
